This guide explains how to clone a WordPress site to a new domain using Plesk’s WordPress Toolkit. In this example, we clone yourdomain.com<\/strong> to clone.yourdomain.com<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udca1 Your subdomain (e.g. clone.yourdomain.com<\/code>) will need a DNS A record pointing to your server before the cloned site will be accessible. If you haven’t set this up yet, see: How to Add a DNS A Record for a Subdomain<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: Add the Target Domain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before cloning, the destination domain must exist in Plesk. Go to Websites & Domains<\/strong> and click Add Domain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2: Choose “Blank Website”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Select Blank website<\/strong> from the options. This creates an empty domain ready to receive the cloned content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3: Enter the New Domain Name<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Under Registered domain name<\/strong>, enter the target domain (e.g. clone.yourdomain.com<\/code>), then click Add Domain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plesk will configure the domain, DNS, hosting, PHP, and mail automatically. You’ll see a confirmation when complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4: Open the Clone Dialog<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Back on the Websites & Domains<\/strong> page, expand yourdomain.com<\/strong>. Under the WordPress<\/strong> tab, click Clone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 5: Configure the Clone Settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the Clone My Website<\/strong> dialog, configure as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Select Use existing domain<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Choose clone.yourdomain.com<\/strong> from the dropdown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Leave the path field blank<\/strong> to clone to the root directory (not a subdirectory).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Step 6: Start the Clone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Click Start<\/strong>. Plesk will copy the files, database, and update configuration automatically. A progress indicator shows each stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 7: Clone Complete<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Once all three stages show a green tick, you’ll see “My Website” was cloned<\/strong>. The site is now live at clone.yourdomain.com<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
