Creating an FTP account (cPanel)

There’s various different ways to access/edit your files on your hosting, such SSH, FTP or simply using the File Manager in the hosting control panel.

This guide will show you how to setup an FTP account to access your hosting.

1. Login to your cPanel account. When you first set up an account with us, you would have received an email with the details on how you can gain access to your control panel. If you have lost those details, feel free to raise a support ticket, visit our website for live chat, or call in.

2. Navigate to FTP Accounts.

3. Add the desired details such as the FTP Username and FTP Password.

⚠️Important: Please make sure to set a strong password, the stronger the password the less likely it can be brute forced/bypassed.

💡Note: Once the password has been set it’s not stored anywhere visible/accessible, so we also recommend making the password memorable and/or storing the password in a secure location (e.g. a password manager).

👉Tip: By default cPanel will try to create a new directory/folder for the FTP account, generally this isn’t very helpful as it will then restrict you to that directory/folder which often is not where your website files are stored. Either leave the highlighted box blank to have full access to all files or just set it to public_html instead which will restrict the FTP accounts directory/folder to the same location as your website files for your Primary domain.

4. Click Create FTP Account to create the account.

That’s it, you’ve now created a new FTP account in cPanel.
